Longshoreman Secret Poet Society

With my bike tuned up and three days of a relaxing vacation, you'd think I'd be revived and ready to ride this morning. Instead I am more tired than ever feeling since I was constantly disturbed from sleep from continual loud fireworks being set off in the neighborhood. I sleepily get ready and hope on my bike. Wow! It feels amazing riding at gear 5 and 6 now! As I start to wake up, the wind and my allergies kick up full force. My eyes and nose are just dripping until I finally manage to take an allergy pill when I get to the elevator. Before that, I rode by a pink dread head woman with interesting tattoos crossing the bridge. I wonder where she's going and even if she just goes downtown I think about how long it must take her. Next I pass a group of four or five long bearded cap wearing older men sitting at a table near the fishing dock. Are they tallying their fishing finances or are they a longshoremen secret poet society? I turn the corner and notice the lack of big rigs lined up. Do big rig drivers all take the 4th off? I feel bad for stereotyping, but I think, "of course they do...aren't they the most proud Americans out there?"
I get to the construction area and overhear a construction worker and two police officers (one decked out in complete sleeve tattoos) discussing how long they've been divorced, "after 9 years" one says. The other laughs and replies, "for me it was after 23 years man!" Later, as I'm waiting at a stop light downtown, I overhear two women walking by and one divulges, "Then, he up and left her after 40 years!" I realize there are a lot of broken hearts walking around Seattle on an uncommonly sunny and clear morning.
I get to South Lake Union Park and am a bit shocked and disgusted by how messy it is after the Wooden Boat Festival and the 4th of July Fireworks celebration. I guess I just never realized an event that big takes more than just a few hours to clean up. Not only is it messy, but my entire ride was so super stinky! I seemed to be following garbage trucks all morning.
I made it to class by bike again. Apparently I've inspired some of my classmates to ride to school too (since they come from shorter distances). I felt a little sheepish in the afternoon when one classmate walked by wishing me a good ride, and I was secretly waiting for Phil to pick me up since it was so hot and I was so tired and he happened to be going right by school anyway!
